Impact of Promoting Leduc’s Agrivalue Processing Business Incubator (APBI)
- Promoting the APBI to international food processing companies is attracting new investment to Alberta, increasing the manufacturing capacity in the
province and adding value to Alberta’s agricultural commodities.
Fort McKay Business Incubator (FMBI) Update
- The concept is coming to fruition! Since the launch of the FMBI Conceptual Framework just two years ago, with a full-time manager and Administrative Coordinator, the incubator today is servicing 11 pre-launch, tenant and virtual tenant clients, developing a start-up grant for entrepreneurs, and much more.
Virtual Incubation Manitoba (VIM)
Virtual Incubation Manitoba, an initiative of Smart Partners Manitoba, evolved in 2001 as a concept of virtual incubation, the first of its kind in Canada. By 2005, the program entered its third extension, and is currently sponsored by both provincial and federal governments.
VIM assists IT companies to start up or expand their business. Incubation services include:
- Business planning
- Strategic planning
- Management consulting
- Marketing
- Mentoring
The incubation program was a strategic fit to grow Manitoba's IT sector, but because of the scattered location of fledgling companies around the province, a virtual model was seen as more efficient in providing training and education to remote and hard-to-service areas.
The online components of VIM are a value-added service that enables e-commerce business development using e-learning and e-consulting services.
While VIM provides content expertise, two other organizations make this virtual incubator successful:
VIM welcomes clients from all regions of Manitoba. While the IT sector does cluster in Winnipeg due to the concentration of telecommunications infrastructure, VIM has clients from all regions of Manitoba including the far north.
